Really appreciate the update matt. I have just purchased one a few days ago for the front diff of my 80 then saw your original video thinking oh no haha. I am super keen to get it in my 80 and see the difference it makes.
Don’t listen to this man. Factor 55 is four miles from where I am now. The extreme duty shackle doesn’t spin freely on the retention pulley effectively increasing the load. The standard shackle is “self” lubricating and is designed to work with the pulley. A soft shackle works because it’s under a load and in a dynamic pull recovery by definition has slack in it and if a soft shackle could ever come undone it would be when it is slack.
Fair enough but why should they listen to you either?
@@MadMatt4WD Oh please DON’T listen to me! Listen to the manufacturer who I’ve shaken hands with. Excellent smart people with a true desire to make recovery effective but more importantly SAFE!
I just own my first 4WD, Toyota Hilux, and I appreciate your knowledge very much 🙏
Our pleasure!
And the attitude for the bush shown by the individuals in the video is the problem with society, you find this sort of behaviour on represented in most groups . Dirtbike community has them , boating community has them, all groups do. They will be the loudest when the areas they have thrashed are locked up for good
I bought a BP (Gen 3 in US speak) 07 outback as a cheap work wagon with the intention to replace it in about 12months. Absolutely love it it's the best all rounder car I've ever owned and that includes some fairly expensive brand new vehicles over the years. About to do a 3inch lift with bigger A/T tyres and have some fun with it here in NZ. Even totally stock with a set of yokohama geolanders its never got stuck. It owes me nothing and paid itself off immediately through working with it. Great vid
Thanks for sharing
This was an awesome learning resource ❤
Your comments about the fatigue are well thought. It's very easy to get tunnel vision and make hasty moves when really the best thing is to focus on reality: it's not your car. It's not an emergency. The car is already ripped up. Hard to toss in the towel for the night, but oftentimes it's best just to stop and pick up in the morning when you get late into the night.
I can remember when straps were just coming out and replacing chains. But i have never used one of these a recovery ropes
I have a new 2024 Land Cruiser. It has a center locker and a rear locker. What do you recommend for the center locker?
The centre diff lock is only so it can go from an AWD vehicle to a 4wd vehicle. So basically anytime you hit dirt turn it on.
1. They can’t even drive 2. All of them together have the mentality of a tictac 3. These muppets are the cause of track closures
Bald over inflated tires driven by an over inflated ego.
Total idiots off-roading like this. Only for the likes.
CV BOOT is most vulnerable thing 😢.. i tear down my rubbber many many timess crazy
is there a way to use that bridle AND use the winch to a hard shackle that also has one of the bridels hooked to it? OR is it better to skip the bridle and just do a double pull as usual
I’m not quite following the idea?
@@MadMatt4WD I was just thinking out the box as using one point for 2 different things but now that I re-read it- it doesn't even make sense for me- In 55 years of off roading I only used my winch once- LOL- and I really didn't need to-I was just showing off and it was a straight pull lol. I think as I get older I just get crazy thoughts- Thanks for the reply
My opinion is slightly different than yours of the tether. I think the tether is there to reduce to slingshot effect upon failure. If you do the experiment with and without the tether and focus your results on the speed of snap back. Great content Matt.
I see what your saying. I don't think this tether did much to remove any energy of consequence from the situation.
Awesome, big thumbs up 👍👍👍, hahaha, if in doubt power it out
Great review! Can you please tell me if you know what's the difference between Razr MT and Bighorn MT764?
I can’t tell you specifically but I thought the bighorn was finished.
@@MadMatt4WD ok, thank you. Cheers!
It doesn't matter how we drive anymore, we're all going to get locked out eventually. The proposal to ban four wheel driving in state forests in Victoria looks like its going forward.
Yeah I’m following that with concern
Did you just pull out a stone from a tread block...access it...and then put it back!?! 😂 Good review though! Thanks!
I have a late 80s 70 series MWB. I noticed that when turning from one direction to another while driving causes a dull “thump” as if something is shifting from side to side with the weight of the vehicle. I would assume a CV joint? Thanks for any advice 👍 Great video, what’s the name of that parts supply company?

any hotties ?
It looks like they had the bridal wrapped through the front leaf springs at the mount. There's no recovery points.
How did you put your vehicle in the ditch so neatly in the first place 😅
I just drove it there 🤟
@@MadMatt4WD Problem, reaction, solution 👍🏽
Excellent vide as always Matt. I am interested to know what to do if you stall the vehicle apply brake and handbrake but start rolling back because you have lost traction?
Hang on and hope. 😁😁 there’s not much you can do but if the car stays straight to the hill stay hard on the brakes till it stops. If it starts to go offline input the required steering lock then briefly get of the brakes to allow the front wheels to turn and steer you back online. Then straighten the wheels and get onto the brakes again. Repeat as needed and hope.
Theoretically, lowering the friction in the suspension linkage, which acts as damping, should allow the shocks to work better because the damping curve will be more linear. But a lot of these vehicles are designed for the bushing to flex, so you don't want a PU bushing there. In my bike I have cartridge bearings and there's almost zero friction.
A roller fairlead would be better for this type is winching. It would cause less damage to your roap.
Totally agree. But given this test was The only time I I’ve ever tried it I’ll stay with the hawse.
Shame that gq has been a loyal hard working mule for so many years only to end up in the hands of these morons. If you want to get rid of a vehicle, put it on gumtree so the next generation has access to affordable 4wds. People complain the prices are skyrocketing but have no concept of supply demand.
Omg, thank you for this video! You just saved me from having to buy new hammock straps. I used a regular hammer and after a few seconds of gentle tapping, the seemingly impossible knot was out!
Glad I could help!
I would say the British Army don't allow kinetic recovery on 'thin-skinned' vehicles
Same for the Australian military I believe.
I use low range on low range and how range on high range.
Looks like you had a 1:1 pull on the front, and a 2:1 on the back which is why it came up first and overpowered the front pull of 1:1
Yeah after the video I realised my stuff up
Beautiful😘
If you use lube you change the toque value as a spanner man you should know that.
Yes it changes it about 20%
What a bunch of donkeys. Ruining it for the rest of us. As a dirtbike rider as well, the amount of car debris, oil and litter from muppets like this across the trails is ridiculous. Selfish behaviour. And to post it on RUclips and influence the new generation coming through, to act like this is piss poor form. Good round up and well done for calling them out
Mud is money
It looks like someone dug a hole it looks like they did not get out to inspect the terain it's Just not worth what they did camber Is off at both sides also if it could have been driven straight into the hole that's best but if you can't find a alternative route I would have driven miles to get round it just not worth it is it
Well i will give credit for my maxxis razr AT 285 75 16 on my 105 just clicked over 60K km and have 7mm left compared to 12mm when new. They have performed flawlessly certainly good value tyres
Great story, great job. Thk u
Did you notice where the winch was installed? Behind the driver with the the winch cable going under the driver's seat.
Yeah the mind boggles at that one. Probably just screwed to the floor.
Good on ya! Great to see people still care
A lot of hands make light work! 💪
Thank you for calling it what it is! Frazer island! Not gibberish
Good on everyone involved for helping keep the island open for tourism & reducing the danger to wildlife. Not good that this video has so few views. Seems not many people in the 4wd community think cleaning up the places we want to go is worth their time. That's bloody shameful
Yeah unfortunately we often see these videos do poorly because they’re not look at how poor my driving is videos.

We would love you to come along. You could be my personal butler and chief bottle washer.
I love seeing Matt in the beginning of his internet fame. He was so awkward in comparison to the 2024 Matt. It’s just cool to see the growth
Thank you to 4wdqld and all affiliated clubs that so this every year
We are finding it more often these days, rubbish everywhere. From toilet paper to couches. We use to take a spare bag for other people’s rubbish that we would collect. Now we take several bags. Even the big companies need to do more about waste. It’s great to see so many people involved. Awesome just awesome. Keep up the great work Matt 👏👏👏
